Re: A Tribute to Nikola Tesla on Capitol Hill
It's geat that SUC will be honoring Nikola Tesla in Washington. Perhaps SUC is aware that the Croats are also claiming rights to Nikola Tesla (see link below), and apparently are organizing a tribute to Tesla. And, the Serbs over in the homeland are now scrambling to do likewise. It's a well known fact that Tesla was a Serb, but leave it to the Croats to 're-invent' him.

I think SUC should notify the Today Show and other morning news shows about the 150th anniversary and Serb Days and see if they won't cover our ethnic concerns, our activities on the Hill, and our heroes. Every other ethnic group receives sympathetic coverage, but the moment one of our heroes deserves an occasion of publicity, it doesn't happen! This way we also preclude the Croatians from reinventing him. Did Tesla ever claim he was Croatian? Did he not always identify himself as a Serb? I would be curious to find documentation provided by him as to his ethnic background.

Nikola Tesla was born in Austro-Hungary. He as we know was Serbian ethnically, but like many (like my grandparents) was born in Lika, Croatia, Austro-Hungary at that time. Unfortunately about 12-15 years ago on Jeopardy, the question of Nikola Tesla's nationality was asked. The answer was
Croatian. My father who met him in the 1920's went ballistic, wrote Jeopardy a protest letter. When they responded they stressed that they did not ask his ethnicity, but his nationality.

After reading these comments I just have to add something. Truth and justice is not something that is 'given' to you. Truth and justice is something that you fight for!
Nikola Tesla was a Serb that is the fact.
I can claim that I am from Mars and there are really some people out there that would believe me! I am not joking!
SUC is doing a fantastic job!

Nikola Tesla NEVER said he is Croatian, yet always said he came from the current Croatian city of Lika, which at the time of his birth in 1856, was a part of Austro-Hungary. His father Milutin was a Serbian Orhtodox Priest at the Serbian Orthodox Church near his birth house in Lika. This house and Church have been since destroyed by the same people that are trying to claim him as their own....go figure.
