Washington DC Mayor Williams and Capitol Hill staff attend the SUC slava

WASHINGTONThis year’s Annual SUC Slava took place at Potomac Plaza of Foggy Bottom (Washington, DC).  Among the nearly fifty local Serbs in attendance, Washington DC Mayor Anthony Williams attended the Slava.   Additional guests from the American Hellenic Institute, International Relief & Development (IRD), Embassy of Serbia and Montenegro, and various staff from the U.S. House and Senate gathered around with SUC members.  St. Luke Serbian Orthodox parish priest Father Aleksa Micich blessed the gathering and cut the "slavski kolac.”

Not only did non-Serbs get the chance to experience our Serbian Orthodox heritage, the Slava was also attended by the growing “Serb-network” of young Serb-Americans who have found careers in our Nation’s Capitol.  Members of the Greek community also attended.

The SUC Washington office would like to thank the volunteers for their help, preparation of wonderful fasting appetizers, and especially to Danica Jekich for arranging the room at the Potomac Plaza and assistance with inviting Mayor Williams.  An effort of great teamwork between the SUC DC Chapter members and Washington office contributed to this successful event.

Srecna Slava to all at SUC.
May the Archangel Michael guide you all at SUC and give you strength to continue your work in the Serbian-American diaspora.
Our Homeland and the Government of Serbia and Montenegro is entering a very serious and challenging period and will need all the support, guidance and attention from its Diaspora worldwide.
I hope that all Serbs, no matter where they live will remember the SOC in Kosovo and Metohija, province of Serbia, and its faithful, living under extremely difficult conditions and pray for them.
I hope that the international community will respect Serbia's sovereignty and at the same time grant autonomy to the ethnic Albanians living in Kosovo and Metohija.
Lastly may Serbia and Montenegro remain united for the good of its people.
Best wishes for 2006.

Dragi prijatelji, pratim vase dragocene akcije i donacije. Imam poverenja u vas i zelim da i vi meni poverujete kada vam kazem da bi delic vase paznje bio nesto sto bi ohrabrilo temelje nesrecnog srpskog naroda u Srebrenici!
Idu bozicni i nopvogodisnji oraznici. Nedavno sam bila u gostima Kola srpskih setara na njihovoj slavi Sv. Petka. Pisite preko Crkve. 27/godisnji svestenik se zove Zeljko Teofilovic. Ima vrednu i dobru suprugu Vesnu i 4.godisnjeg sina Teofana. Moja reportaza o njima nalazi se na sajtu srpskenovineogledalo...
Oni nemaju hrane, lekova, pelena za 15 obolelih nepokretnih starijih osoba...
Neka vam je srecna slava i nastupajuci praznici! Bicete srecniji ako i Srbe u Srebrenici ucinite bar malo nesrecnim!

I applaud the Serbian Congress and wish you all a Blessed Nativity. Always keep steadfast in your worthy cause. Do not let the events of the last fifteen years defeat you. Remember our past, keeping in mind that with faith, justice can and will prevail.
