UN tries to arrest Serb official in Gračanica, B92

May 14, 2008 on 4:53 am | In Kosovo & Metohija, News in English |

GRAČANICA — UN police tried to arrest Priština Municipal Coordinator Slaviša Nikolić in Gračanica today.

According to a statement from the Kosovo Ministry’s office in Kosovska Mitrovica, a UN police officer tried to arrest Nikolić this morning in the offices of the Priština municipality, which have been moved to Gračanica.

Staff in the municipal building objected to Nikolić’s arrest, whereupon, it is claimed, the officer “threatened to summon UN special units, and warned that he would definitely be arrested by the end of the day.”

According to the statement, today’s attempted arrest is one of the reasons for the great tension felt by Serbs in central Kosovo.
