BERLIN. Nov 19 (Interfax) - The Kosovo problem must be resolved
through a UN Security Council Resolution, State Duma Speaker Boris
Gryzlov said at an international conference entitled “Russia-Europe:
Developing Together” in Berlin on Monday.
“Russia rejects hasty attempts to resolve the Kosovo problem as
unacceptable. We do not think rejecting the only legitimate way, which
is a UN resolution, will be beneficial to the Balkans, Europe and the
world at large,” he said.
This way will do nothing but create new problems in various
countries and regions, he said.
“Russia will invariably support international law and oppose double
standards in the case of Kosovo and others at the UN, the G-8 and all
European Institutions,” he said.
Russia is opposed to any double standards and id concerned about
human rights in certain EU member countries, Gryzlov said.
“Hundreds of thousands of people are denied basic human rights in
Estonia and Latvia. They cannot even state openly what their problems
are at the political level, as their politicians are not elected and are
they are not entitled to vote. In addition, the authorities of certain
states, in which they were born and lived their entire lives, do not
want to hear their native language,” according to Gryzlov.
“Why does this discrimination still exist in the European Union? It
is not even a remnant of the Cold War but something more reminiscent of
pre-war Europe. It is no accident that the same political forces in
Estonia and Latvia, which support this discrimination, also wish to see
a return to the days of WW2, glorify the SS units and find excuses for
crimes against humanity,” he said.
The recent relocation of the Soldier-Liberator Monument in Tallinn
is also a product of such thinking, Gryzlov said. “That was an insult to
the common European and human values,” he added.
“The lack of a common European reaction to such steps is
encouraging for extremist and neo-Nazi forces in various states,” he
said. By opposing the oblivion of WW2, Russia is protecting European
values and the future of all Europe, he said.

we are lucky to have Russia’s presence now at the world stage . In the Olds days the communists were often the violators of international law and human rights . Now Russia reads the Un charters and international laws better than the West .
