MOSCOW, March 29 (Tanjug) - It is impossible to conduct further talks on the status of Kosovo without respecting the positions of Belgrade and Pristina, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Thursday, after a meeting with Portuguese counterpart Luis Amado.
United Nations (UN) Special Envoy Martti Ahtisaari has decided to ignore the lack of agreement between Belgrade and Pristina, Lavrov said, but this will not be effective.
The topic at this time should not be the differences in the stands between Russia and the European Union (EU), or the differences within the EU itself on the issue of the status of Kosovo, but the differences between Belgrade and Pristina, the Russian foreign minister underscored.
In the resolving of the issue of Kosovo, Minister Amado said, the cooperation between Russia and the EU is of particular importance.
It is not just a matter of conflict, but that the given situation affects the resolving of an entire series of existing conflicts, Amado said.
Portugal will take over the EU Presidency in the second half of this year.
